Verify a welded joint from your static analysis

WeldCheck takes the forces and moments a welded joint transmits, from a static FEA or a hand calculation, distributes each load case along your weld group by the elastic vector method and checks every point of every weld against AISC 360: weld-metal strength with the directional increase, base metal, and the minimum size and length rules. It also gives the fillet size you need.

WeldCheck at a glance

You provideWeld group geometry, weld and base-metal data, and the loads from your static analysis

How it works

  1. Draw or generate the weld group.
  2. Set the weld type and size, the filler metal, the base metal and the design method.
  3. Enter the load cases from your static analysis, or import a CSV.
  4. Run the verification and download the PDF report.

Frequently asked questions

Which standard does WeldCheck follow?

AISC 360 section J2 for fillet and partial-penetration groove welds, with the fabrication limits of AWS D1.1 for sizes and lengths. Each check in the result shows the clause it comes from.

Why the elastic vector method?

It is simple and conservative compared with the instantaneous-center method: the load is distributed along the weld lines like stresses, and the most demanding point of each segment decides.

What is not covered?

Complete-joint-penetration welds, intermittent welds, unequal-leg fillets, submerged-arc welds and fatigue. It is a verification aid: check critical welds against your own copy of the standard.
