Reverse engineer a gear's manufacturing parameters
GearScan automates the manual loop of measuring a gear and iterating in gear-design software until the geometry matches. It tests the standard module or diametral-pitch and pressure-angle series, fits the profile shift (and the helix angle for helical gears) and returns ranked candidates.
GearScan at a glance
| You provide | Tooth count, diameters, M or W measurement, optional profile CSV |
|---|---|
| You get | Ranked candidates, overlay plot, CSV, JSON and PDF report |
| Where it runs | Analyzed on the server; results are private to your account |

How it works
- Enter the tooth count and choose spur or helical.
- Enter your vernier measurements, or generate a synthetic gear to test the engine.
- Run the fit.
- Review the ranked candidates and download the report.
Frequently asked questions
Does it handle spur and helical gears?
Yes. For helical gears it also fits the helix angle.
Do I need the digitizing device?
No. Vernier measurements are enough. The digitized profile is optional and improves the fit. The device itself is still in development.
How can I check that the engine is right?
Synthetic mode generates a known gear with measurement noise and shows whether the fit recovers its real parameters.
